What Pregnancy Conditions Do We Treat?
Pregnancy causes the hormone levels in your body to change significantly, both during pregnancy and following the birth of your baby. Progesterone levels are extraordinarily high which causes a loosening of the ligaments throughout your body and can affect the small joints of your hand. You also have increases in fluid retention which causes swelling around joints. This can make new mothers more prone to conditions such as:
Carpal Tunnel post pregnancy is common in pregnancy due to increased swelling which causes compression of a nerve in your wrist. This can result in significant pins and needles, numbness and weakness in your hand. Our services include: Orthotics/Night splinting, massage, joint protection, education, and strengthening.
de Quervain’s Tenosynovitis (wrist pain during pregnancy) is inflammation of the tendon sheath in your wrist. It causes burning pain with movement of your thumb and wrist. Pain usually starts pre–birth and without treatment worsens throughout the following year. What we provide: orthotics/splinting, massage, education, modification of activities of daily living, and strengthening.
Trigger Finger during pregnancy is a thickening of a tendon in your finger or thumb that causes it to “catch” when moving your thumb. If caught early this can be treated simply with a small splint. We can help with orthotics/splinting, massage, and strengthening.
